Heathcote School Humanities Department
Geography Welcome Message
All students study Geography in years 7 – 9. The curriculum looks at human, physical and environmental aspects of geography. In Y7, students look at the challenges of living in a diverse society. They also start to develop their geographical skills and look at key issues such as settlement and rivers and flooding. In Y8, students learn about weather and climate, ecosystems, with a focus on rainforests, and natural hazards. In Y9, students consider issues surrounding energy and climate change with a focus on becoming responsible global citizens.
At GCSE students follow the Edexcel B syllabus, which is an issues based specification, using geographical concepts to explain key issues facing today’s world.
