ICT Syllabus

Year 7 and 8

In Year 7 and 8 students are introduced to a range of software applications to solve everyday problems. 

Firstly, students are taught about Health and Safety when using computers and e-safety when using the Internet and similar technologies.  Students are introduced to applications such as spreadsheets and databases and are taught how to use advanced formulas to manipulate data and to create graphs and charts.  Students are also taught how to create graphics that can be combined with text to create professional presentations and websites.  Finally, students are taught how to control events using simple instructions using software called Flowol.

Year 9 and 10

Students in Year 9 and 10 follow the OCR Nationals Level 2 syllabus which requires students to solve real life problems using a range of ICT applications.  Students must complete three units to gain the equivalent of two GCSEs.  The units are as follows:

Unit 1: Using ICT in Business

Students must create a range of documents for the fictional company Downloadable Tunes.  They must demonstrate a range of skills using the following programs:

  • File Management
  • Internet Searching
  • Email
  • Spreadsheet software
  • Database software
  • Word processing software
  • Desktop Publishing
  • Presentation software

Unit 3: Digital imaging - Plan and produce computer graphics

Students much create a range of graphics that will be used on packaging, websites and promotional leaflets.  The graphics are being made for a fictional company called RoxyChocs and students must use a range of tools when using the drawing software.  Students must also research real life examples of chocolate packaging before they create their own versions.

Unit 5: Desktop Publishing

Students must create an information leaflet for a fictional organisation called Health Times.  The information leaflet must contain information around the central theme of Healthy and Eco-friendly living.  Students must use advanced Desktop Publishing skills to create a professional booklet
