At Heathcote School we offer either French or German to all students in Year 7. In Year 8 all students continue with the first language and most students start to learn a second language.
In KS3, all students work to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. They also have the opportunity to develop cultural awareness of the language they study. This includes educational visits to the target language country.
In Year 9 students take a series of controlled assessments in the Foundation Certificate of Secondary Education (FCSE). They are awarded a Level 1 Certificate by AQA Examinations Board at the end of the course.
At KS4 studying a Modern Foreign Language becomes optional. Students follow the AQA syllabus. Most topics taught in KS3 are revisited and students continue to improve their language learning skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
