Two year 11 GCSE Food Technology students, Michael Rule and Lewis Bannerman, took part in the Area final of the Prestigious Rotary Chef Cookery Competition on 2nd February 2010. The competition aims to encourage young people to develop cookery skills, develop food preparation skills, consider healthy eating options and prove their ability to cope in a demanding situation. Students are allowed £4.50 to spend on the ingredients for a healthy main meal suitable for two people.
Lewis chose to cook Leek and Onion Tart served with roasted Vine Tomatoes and Parsley.
Michael cooked Sloppy Joe Spaghetti Cups served with Rocket and Roasted Cherry Tomatoes.
Schools from all over Redbridge and Waltham Forest took part. The standard of all the final dishes was very high making the judges task extremely challenging. Michael and Lewis were presented their runners up prizes of recipe books by the Mayor of Redbridge. Congratulations to them both!
