One Goal Campaign                    Visit to Number 10

For the last three years Heathcote School and the Humanities Department have supported the Global Campaign for Education's Send My Friend Campaign, participating in events such as The World's Biggest Lesson and The Big Read. This years campaign is linked to the World Cup and is called 1 Goal. Many professional footballers, world wide have signed up to support this campaign.

The Send My Friend campaign aims to remind world leaders of their promise to provide an education for every child in the world by 2015. At present there are 72 million children in the world who do not have the opportunity to attend school. Education will make such a big difference. As Nelson Mandela said Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world.

Art Department 1GOAL campaign

In support of reminding world leaders of the 72 million children in the world who do not receive an education, Yr7 and 8 students have been making scarf designs for the 1GOAL campaign this half term.

1GOAL

The whole school contributed to signing the scarves as a form of petition to be sent to the new Prime Minister, David Cameron. The scarves were also signed by the schools governors and by parents attending the summer concert. The Art department even took the scarf to Whitehall School so that the children there could get involved too by signing the petition.

1GOALIn all, 1,346 signatures were collected in support of this most worthwhile cause.

The project has been so successful that the Art department contacted Number 10 and was invited to Downing Street to personally deliver the petition along with 5 lucky selected students and Mr Patel.

Whatever the result of the World Cup we hope the final score will be

Visit to Number 10 Downing Street

Five students and three teachers went to 10 Downing Street to deliver the petition.  Students were allowed in past the gates and up to the front door of Number 10 where a security guard accepted the petition on behalf of the Prime Minister.  We were allowed to take photos on the doorstep of Number 10.

David Cameron wrote to the students of Heathcote School to thank us for the scarf petition and to say how he, and the Government, share us in support of the 1GOAL campaign.
