Mindfulness Advent Countdown

Dear Parent/Carer and Pupils…. in fact Dear all friends of Heathcote School,

It has been an exceptional year in so many ways and as we draw towards the festive period and ultimately the end of 2020 tradition is to celebrate Advent through a countdown to Christmas, with 24 days being ticked off by eager and excited young children (and adults!!).

Monday 16th November marks 24 school days until the end of the Autumn term and rather than count down and wish time away, Heathcote has created a wellbeing calendar to promote mental and physical wellbeing, acts of kindness provide and twenty four ideas and inspirations in how to be mindful of one’s self and others.

None of the acts are compulsory, and all are mindful of the current restrictions of Covid.

There are three suggestions for each day, a focus on wellbeing, literacy and an act of kindness, just simple ideas on how we might improve or health and wellbeing to the school and wider community. Suggestions have been provided by staff and pupils:

Ms Bashal, Director of English and Literacy

Ms Elmi, Assistant Headteacher and Pupil Leadership co-ordinator

Ms Donoghue, Head of Philosophy, Identity and Ethics (PIE)

The calendar is in two parts. Both will appear on the website and part one, the first ten days is attached to this letter. If parents/carers would like to contribute to further ideas then please do get in touch via the learning and teaching admin team (details below).

Whilst all activities are non-compulsory if pupils wish to post photos of them carrying out the ‘tasks’ they can email the teaching and learning admin team

There will be prizes for pupils who get involved in exceptional ways.
