On Wednesday 5th May 2019 it was World Facilities Management Day and Year 8 Heathcote School pupils were chosen to help celebrate this date by taking part in an Eco Workshop. Head of Design Technology, Mr Dolan, explains all...

The event was organised by the Institute of Workplace Facilities Management with expert speakers in the world of FM giving pupils and insight into future pathways that this career can provide.  The pupils were then set the challenge of identifying areas of FM within our own school that require improvement and provide solutions to these issues in a formal presentation.

Filmed Event IWFM cropMembers of the IWFM, including the organisations CEO Ms. Linda Hausmanis, the FM industry experts and Matt Simmons from the London Olympic Legacy Development organisation watched the presentations, which were professionally filmed for inclusion in social media commemoration film, commented on how well the pupils did with the communication of their ideas and presentation of the identified issues. Judges of the presentations were Mr Abbott and Mr Gallacher who gave feedback to each group and announced the winners stating the reasons were the quality of communication and the innovative solutions offered by the group to address the FM needs around the school.

This was an excellent event and the pupils were incredible; demonstrating what it is to be a Heathcote pupil; someone who is committed to their work, innovative and technically-minded. We hope to work with these Year 8 pupils and others in Design and Technology if they choose this subject in their options where opportunities to do work of this type are commonplace as part of the course requirements.
