Careers at HeathcoteEducation, Information, Advice And Guidance For All Year Groups

Careers Education at Heathcote School and Science College is based upon providing aspirational advice to young people on all progression routes, and the impact of our programme is evident in the outstanding destinations to which our students go on.

Outstanding careers education is one of the driving forces behind social mobility and our aspiring careers programme is an integral part of our school improvement plan. The programme is assessed against The Gatsby Benchmarks and measured by tracking the longer term destinations of our students.

At Heathcote the Careers Programme offers:

  • One-to-One Careers Appointments for every student.

All pupils will have the chance to discuss their career aspirations (or explore possibilities if they are unsure of a specific career) and create an action plan to help them progress towards their chosen career.

  • Experience of the workplace

The opportunity to visit places of work, shadow employees, expand networks and explore careers opportunities.

  • Encounters with employers and Employees

At the Annual Careers Fair for all key stages and at various enrichment opportunities, including guest speakers, workplace mentoring and enterprise schemes, pupils have the opportunity to learn from employers and education providers about employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. Year 10 and Year 12 pupils all have the opportunity to experience ‘Progression Week’, pupils can experience the following: work experience, external speakers, workshops, CV building, interview skills and team building.
We are proud to work with prestigious employers, such as Zurich, these partnerships provide further opportunities for pupils at Heathcote School.

  • Careers education in the curriculum

Tailored careers sessions take place within Challenge Week, each session is linked to their ‘Career Flight Path’ and supports them in making their next choices.
